Wishes...A MMCC1 week 2 24

Mona Pendleton | Monday, June 17, 2013 @ 8:55 PM | , , , , , , , ,

Hi there! I'm back today for week 2 of A Mixed Media Color Challenge sharing a page in my art journal. In case you missed my post HERE, there's a new color challenge blog on the block for mixed media enthusiasts to share their creativity! Come check it out ~ HERE

You have until next week Tuesday, at 6:00 PM Eastern to create something / anything using the color combination shown below and at least TWO types of MEDIUMS: ie: paints, markers, pastes, mists, inks, etc..., in addition to the "traditional" stamped / colored image to create your project.
I pulled out my 8 1/2" x 11" art journal and created a page using various products.
After staring at the big white empty space, I began by painting pink acrylic paint all over, once dry, I collaged on tissue paper then added a light coat of gesso. Not sure where to go from there, I pulled out never before inked stamp from my stash and used that as my focal point. Once I had the sentiment in place, the rest came together.
I created my own painted paper using a combination of randomly dripped pink, black, silver and white paint on the gelli arts plate. I then cut three different sized die cut hearts using Die-namics Layered Heart, Die-namics Heart STAX and Die-namics Blueprints 4 dies.
I added texture using mesh tape then fiber paste was smeared across. The random white polka dots seen all over were made using white acrylic paint with the MPD Graduated Dots stencil
I randomly stamped the chicken wire image as well as the polka dot image from MPD Distressed Background Blocks. (the polka dot image was heat embossed using silver embossing powder). I finished it off with splatters of black paint.
The pink design was made using a permanent pink ink along with the MPD Delicate Doily stencilI finished it off with splatters of black acrylic paint.
I am also entering this into the current Scrap Africa Challenge where they are challenging us to use Stencils, Paste and Paint.

Thanks so much for taking the time to visit ~ I hope I have inspired you to mix things up! Please hop on over to A Mixed Media Color Challenge for COMPLETE details on how to join in the fun and for some jaw dropping inspiration from Sue!

Love...MFT June Release Rewind 40

Mona Pendleton | Sunday, June 16, 2013 @ 9:00 PM | , , , , , , ,

Hi there! Welcome to the June MFT May Release Rewind Day 1! Today and tomorrow, many of the MFT DT members will have shared or will be sharing projects made using awesome MFT products that can be found in the Brand Spankin' New category of the MFT Boutique! Please be sure to visit the MFT blog for a complete list of designers who will be participating today.
First up is a layout featuring a photo of Meredith doing what she loves surround with lots of flowers and texture.
I stamped two toned roses using Pink Lemonade and Bubblegum inks along with the two various sized blossoms from MPD Blooming Roses on coordinating die cuts that were made using Die-namics MPD Rose Bouquet. I added a sweet Sno Cone butterfly that was stamped using one of the many images from LJD Blissful Butterflies
Up close, you can see the added texture that I created using the MPD Rose Builder stencil along with fiber paste. I couldn't help but ink up the polka dot image from MPD Distressed Background Blocks with Razzle Berry ink and randomly stamp on the background.
For the sentiment, I used the Love the Here and Now stamp from Chalkboard Greetings which fits perfectly nestled inside the Die-namics LLD Insert It - Speech Bubble Frame
My second sample is a rather simple greeting card.
I basically stamped a trio of roses from MPD Blooming Roses using Berrylicious ink, inked all the edges uses Kraft ink then stamped a sentiment from LJD Blissful Butterflies using Hot Fudge ink.
Many thanks for stopping by today! I hope you enjoyed my take on clean and simple.
Be sure to visit the MFT blog for a complete list of designers who will be participating today!

Happy Father's Day 32

Mona Pendleton | Saturday, June 15, 2013 @ 1:06 PM | , , , ,

Hi there! Hope you are all having a great weekend! Although tomorrow is officially Father's Day here in the US, we have already celebrated at my house. Scott is an AMAZING Dad to both his children and mine :) In celebration of Father's Day, I made him this card featuring a gorgeous Vintage train engine and car image from MFT Inspired by Travel. Scott has always had a passion for model trains / railroads and reminisces about spending countless hours with his Dad working them :)
I stamped one of the many great sentiments from Clearly Sentimental about Fathers below the train image and added a die cut scalloped border that was made using a die from Die-namics Blueprints 4.
I completed the inside with another awesome sentiment from Clearly Sentimental about Fathers:
For sketch inspiration, I joined along with Unscripted Sketches:
Thanks so much for visiting ~ I hope you have a great weekend!

Introducing: A Mixed Media Color Challenge 52

Mona Pendleton | Thursday, June 13, 2013 @ 5:55 PM | , , , , , , , ,

Hi there! If you have visited me before today, you probably know that I love to create mixed media projects. Well, I took that passion and with a lot of encouragement and support from my both my sweet husband, Scott and dear friend / design team mate ~ Sue Lelli and started up a new color challenge where other mixed media enthusiasts are invited to share their creativity! Without rambling on and on, I'm very excited to introduce to:
Here's the scoop: Basically, a new color combination will be introduced every other week on Thursdays at 11:59 PM Eastern and will run for nearly two weeks ending on the second Tuesday at 6:00 PM Eastern. A Featured Artist will be chosen by the DT and the sample will be prominently displayed on A Mixed Media Color Challenge

For additional inspiration from Sue and for COMPLETE details on how to join along, please refer to the MMCC site. ***Please keep in mind this is a MIXED MEDIA color challenge therefore we would like for you to COMBINE at least TWO types of MEDIUMS (ie: paints, markers, pastes, mists, inks, etc...), in addition to the "traditional" stamped / colored image to create your project. Let's get creative folks and Create Outside The Box!

For nearly the next two weeks, we will be playing with the following color combination:

Scott and I will be celebrating our 9th year wedding anniversary this coming Saturday so I took this opportunity to create a little something for him ;) Once I painted and applied the crackle medium to the background, (how~to shown below), I randomly added the following products: MFT MIX-ables Steel Shimmer Mist, stamped checkerboard image from MPD Distressed Background Blocks and Ranger Distress paint (pink).
I adhered a photo taken on our wedding day then surrounded it with lots of flowers and various embellishments. The silver heat embossed rose was made using the larger blossom from MPD Blooming Roses and die cut using the coordinating die from Die-namics MPD Rose Bouquet. The pink flower was originally a white flower from Hobby Lobby that I misted with homemade mixed mist made using MFT MIX-ables Sheer Shimmer Mist and MFT Pink Lemonade ink (how~to video tutorial HERE) and the shimmery silver flower was also colorized using MFT MIX-ables Steel Shimmer Mist.
Close up, you can see the checkerboard design peeking out from under the embellishments which includes another silver embossed die cut rose that was stamped using MPD Blooming Roses and die cut using the coordinating die from Die-namics MPD Rose Bouquet.
I also added some texture using MPD Delicate Doily Stencil along with fiber paste:
I also made a card for Scott which features many similar items used to create the canvas with the addition of the pink paper used which was made using a Gelli Arts printing plate. I stamped one of the sweet sentiments from Clearly Sentimental About You on a die cut strip.
For the card sketch inspiration, I joined along with Freshly Made Sketches:
In case you were wondering how I created the crackled backgrounds on both projects, I took a few steps along the way to share the creative process:

Step 1. Paint surface with acrylic paint color of choice (in my opinion, darker colors work best for this step). Allow to dry or use heat tool.
Step 2. Apply Martha Stewart Crackle Medium. Allow to dry or speed up the process using heat tool being careful not to overheat or it will bubble and burn.
Step 3. Apply lighter color of acrylic paint and watch the magic appear right before your eyes!
To colorize the flower, I misted it using MFT MIX-ables Steel Shimmer Mist:
Thanks so much for taking the time to visit ~ I hope I have inspired you to mix things up! Please hop on over to A Mixed Media Color Challenge for COMPLETE details on how to join in the fun and for some jaw dropping inspiration!
Be Sweet ;)
